If you're the kind of person who wants to focus on a goal and get it accomplished quickly, an accelerated instrument rating is a great way to go... and Southern Maine Aviation is a great place to do it. We can even help you arrange lodging if you're not from the area.
For the accelerated rating, we recommend that you arrive with the written test complete, ready to fly. With our two week program, most people will finish all the requirements and be ready for the check ride. Unlike some flight schools, we have great availability for airplanes and instructors, so you won't have to fit your flying in at night or during off hours. While you're here, you're our top priority. Plus with our flight simulator, we can continue training when the weather is even below IFR minimums, and cover a wider range of emergencies and scenarios.
We have two identical Cessna Skyhawk SPs with top-notch IFR avionics, and an Elite RC-1 flight simulator. Being in New England, we also frequently have some great "actual" weather, so you won't do all your training wearing foggles. All of our flight instructors are instrument instructors and can help you accomplish your goal quickly and professionally.
We do not offer a package price for the rating, because we don't want to put pressure on you to take your check ride until you're truly ready. We want to let you and your instructor determine how much flight time and simulator time you need. But our hourly rates are very competitive (especially with the block time discount!), we have a comprehensive program ready for you, and the time to dedicate toward helping you achieve your goal.
We think you'll be impressed if you check us out for an accelerated instrument rating. Call us to arrange a schedule and/or talk to our instructors!
FOREIGN STUDENTS -- please note that you may be eligible to do some flight training without getting a student visa. Check with your country to see if it participates in the Visa Waiver Program with the US. This may allow you to come to the US for up to 90 days on a tourist visa. We believe that training for sports such as flying or sailing or other recreational activities is allowed under the visa waiver scheme, but check with the authorities for definitive information.
